Lunch is often the busiest time in a school library. Students come in to finish assignments, check email, and just “hang out.” Typically, the computers are very busy, but I may actually check out one or two books to someone.
Yesterday, during second lunch, an amazing thing happened. I counted seven people sitting quietly and reading. (You must remember, this is a JUNIOR High!). Of the seven, only one was reading a magazine. The others were reading BOOKS!
But, here is the truly amazing thing. All seven of these intent, quiet, focused readers were BOYS!!!
That is pretty amazing! I am glad to see that with all sorts of visual this society provides, that some kids still prefer to create their own. Thanks for making us read!
